Duration of Thailand's travel visa

The length of the visitor visa in Thailand would depend on your nationality. For a few countries, Thailand doesn’t even need a visa. For another small group of countries, Thailand authorizes 90 days of tourist visa upon arrival. For another group of countries, it allows 60 days of tourism visa. However, for most countries, including India, Thailand permits up to 30 days of tourist visa upon arrival. This tourist visa can be extended once for a further 30 days at a 1900 Baht visa supplement.

Eligibility criteria for Thailand's visitor visa

There are no predefined eligibility criteria for the Thai tourism visa itself. However, you are considered admissible if you are able to produce the relevant documentation requested. In special cases and in special categories of visa, eligibility will be tested on the basis of your profile, financial proof, and other types of evidence. For example, you will need to be a participant approved by the Thai government to take part in a sports tournament or movie production in the country.

Thailand travel visa application process

On-Arrival Visa:

For the visa upon arrival in Thailand, there is no specific application process. Simply reserve your tickets to go and come to Thailand and visit the country. Once you are landed at the port of entry, you must hand over your documents to the immigration officer. After verification of your identity, proofs and documents, the officer will issue you the visa that will be valid for a stay of up to 30 days. A basic fee of Baht 1000 shall be charged for the issuance of the visa. Thailand is one of the countries with the easiest and most relaxed laws regarding visas in general, and visa on arrival in particular.

Documents required for the Thailand Visitor Visa

A number of things to note:

  • All fees as stated above is based on each applicant for Thailand visa fees for Indians.
  • For tourist multiple entry visa and for all non-immigrant visas, applicants in Chennai, Bengaluru, Kochi, and Hyderabad will need to pay the visa fees via a cheque issued in favour of “The Royal Thai Consulate General” payable in Chennai.
  • In addition to the visa application fee, applicants in the four cities mentioned above will have to pay an extra service fee of 315 INR per applicant, including GST.
  • By paying an extra fee of 215 INR, the applicant can obtain the passport with the visa stamp delivered to their door.
  • For a group of 11 or more individuals, an additional service charge of 235 INR, including GST per person, is charged. Also, in such cases, you would need to submit a letter from the organizing company, with detailed itinerary, and travel tickets of everyone on a single PNR for traveling on the same flight.
  • All fees and expenses mentioned above are not reimbursable, even if the visa is refused.
